Crank Shaft

krangk shahft

noun

Definition

Crank Shafts are connected to Pistons via piston rods. As the Piston operates within the Cylinder, the generated force causes the Piston to send force to the piston rods which then operate the Crank Shaft. By using chains, sprockets, or other similar components, the Crank Shaft can be attached to an axle, rotary pump, or impeller to create motion within a system. Lower-end Borescopes can be used to inspect Crank Shafts, but since any poor performance or wear on the part will almost always require complete disassembly, maintenance technicians tend to inspect other internal components instead.
