Fuselage

fyoo-suh-lahzh

noun

Definition

Fuselage is the part of an aircraft that covers the exterior of the passenger cabin and the cargo cabin. It can be thought of as the exoskeleton or the “skin” of an aircraft. Fuselage provides more benefits than just an outside casing. It also is the mountable surface that position and control mechanisms are tied to the main cabin. Loose FOD (foreign object debris) between the Fuselage and the interior walls of the passenger cabin poses a huge threat to aircraft Airworthiness. Aviation Maintenance Technicians (AMTs) will check to see if FOD (foreign object debris) is present as frequently as every 100 hours.
