Tear Down

tair doun

noun

Definition

Tear Down is the process of completely dismantling machinery. Different maintenance techniques are used to prevent this action. Remote Visual Inspection (RVI) tools like Borescopes and Fiberscopes allow maintenance technicians to quickly diagnose machinery without a complete Overhaul. Unfortunately, sometimes the actual repair process can only be completed with a complete dismantling of the machinery affected. Since this procedure can be costly and time-consuming, maintenance technicians will continually document the internal condition of a machine to accurately plan when a complete Tear Down will need to be performed.
